Changing IPTC city

I just started using Lightroom this week, so I maybe missing something.

I have a number of images where the IPTC city is wrong, usually this occurs in a sequence of images, of for images in a particular folder.

If I ctrl+A the current selection and change the IPTC city, nothing seems to happen.

If I individually select several images and change the city, then only the first one gets changed.

I'm ending up changing one after another, using ctrl+right arrow, which is time consuming- or for an entire folder I'm using EXIFtool, and then reloading the metadata in lightroom.

You're gonna' love this.

In Library grid mode, select the images you want to change. Ctrl-A is fine.

One of the images will have a brighter frame, this is called the 'most-selected'

In the right hand panel (RHP) in the Metadata pane, change the city(or whatever). Make sure to hit enter to commit the change (make the white text box go away).

Down below the Metadata pane at the bottom of the RHP, click the button that says "Sync Metadata" :cheesy:. This will bring up a dialog, which will allow you choose individual metadata fields to sync from the 'most-selected' image to the remaining 'selected' images. Check whichever fields, e.g. city. or All, etc. Click Synchronize, and then you'll get another dialog offering to save a metadata sync preset. If you're going to be doing this a lot, you can save a preset, or you can continue the sync without saving a preset, or you cancel the whole works.

If you plan to stay, it's quite helpful if you'd add a signature block telling us about you and your equipment. PC type, OS, LR version, camera gear, image file types, stuff like that. Click User CP, above left.

If you change them in Grid view, the change will affect all selected photos. If you change them in any other view, the change will only affect the primary photo.

The idea is that in Grid, you're working on multiple images, while in Loupe or any other view where there's only one, you're working on only the one.

LOL, I noticed that Sync Metadata come on and I hit it, but then cancelled, since I though it had had detected a sync problem with my running EXIFtool in the background.

Thanks I'll try tomorrow, I can't see any more after importing several thousands photos.

Duh, didn't I just do keywords in about a thousand pictures this weekend. I guess I read IPTC, and ran off on a tangent.
