Change to Capture Date

I'm not sure how it happened but somehow the date got changed in my camera from 2024 to 2023. All 364 pictures that I took today had a capture date of 01/18/23. I know that I can't fix the capture time in Lightroom Classic. I know how to fix them one file at a time in Adobe Bridge. Is there any way that I can fix all 364 pictures without having to do it one file at a time? Any ideas would save me a great deal of time and would be greatly appreciated.

There are 3rd party utilities that do this (and much more!) very well. Graphic Converter and A Better Finder Attributes are two that come to mind (and that I use regularly)

You can indeed fix this in LR. Select all the affected photos, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, change the year to 2024, and click Change All:

As is terseley explained in the command, this will shift all the photos' dates by the same amount (one year). It will not, not, REPEAT NOT, set the capture dates to the exact same time.

By default, this will change the capture dates in the catalog but not in the files themselves. If you want to change the files also, then do Metadata > Save Metadata To File after doing Edit Capture Time. If the files are raws, and you want to update the capture dates in the raw files, then before doing Save Metatadata To File, set the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > EXIF > Write Date Or Time Changes Into Proprietary Raw Files.

Thanks John. I tried editing using Metadata/Edit Capture Time. I saw that it created a sidecar .xmp file which I didn't really want so I stopped right there. If I save metadata to file, can I just delete the .xmp file without harming anything?

Capture Date is the only place where LrC writes to the RAW file Header.

Yup. At that point, the modified capture date is stored both in the catalog and the raw file itself, and all the information in the .xmp sidecar is also stored in its primary location in the catalog.

Hey all,

I also use this feature quite frequently as I tend to forget adjusting the timezone in my camera. I also want Lightroom to write the data into the RAW file so I always have the option activated as shown above. However I was of the assumption that Lightroom would instantly write the adjusted time into the RAW file but it seems that I need to actively ask Lightroom to write the data to file and then delete the XMP file.

So my question is: Is there any way to find out which of my files have an adjusted date which has not been written to the RAW file yet so I can trigger this task manually again.

I'm not sure if this will help you but I searched my folders for .xmp sidecar files. I only found a few and was able to write the date to the raw file and delete the .xmp files.
