Change in "Edit in" option

Since upgrading from LR 2.5 to 2.6 (64 bit) has anyone noticed a change in the "Right click Edit in" capability?
Since the upgrade Edit option no longer opens the file in TIFF format in Photoshop CS4 (64bit), even though "Edit a copy with LR adjustments" is selected - but rather in NEF format only.

That is correct, you get other options upon "save" or close.I think this has been this way for some tine if I remember correctly!

Did you, by any chance, upgrade from CS3 or CS4 about the same time? Or update ACR?

Victoria thanks for the welcome. Yes I did upgrade CS4 to ACR version 5.6 at the same time. To address Geoff's response -this is is not the way it worked previously. Providing I had my preferences set to open TIFFs in the Edit mode - when I right clicked and selected edit in CS4 a TIFF file was always opened with the format "filename - Edit.Tiff".

Ivan, that makes it clear. The change came sometime in LR2 to work this way with CS4. So LR opens the raw file information into PSCS4 and you have the option to save as TFF, etc at that point so the raw data stays intact.

Sorry Geoff - but that's not the way it's worked for the last year for me with the combination of LR2.x and Photoshop CS4.
My Edit preference is set to open TIFF files with Photoshop - and until the 2.6 upgrade ( about 2 weeks ago) it has worked correctly. Since 2.6 upgrade, instead of TIFF files opening in CS4, I now get the NEF files, even though the preference is still set to TIFF.

This morning I just checked this functionality on my Mac and it's still working correctly (as it was with 2,5)

In addition there seems to be a difference in the way 32 bit Lightroom and 64 bit lightroom (on Vista OS) are handling this issue (both exhibit same problem but symptoms are different) - still looking at my 32 bit system and will provide an update later on

You're both on the right track. It's the ACR update that's making the difference. If you're using an earlier version of ACR, it gives you a dialog asking whether to open anyway (using the behaviour you're seeing now) or render using LR (creating a TIFF, the old behaviour). You probably checked the 'don't show again' checkbox in the dialog ages ago, so it's continued doing the render using LR until the ACR version was updated.

Long story short, when the NEF file opens, and you hit Ctrl-S to save, it'll respect your TIFF preference and add that back into the catalog. It's actually an improvement - you can open a file into PS and if you decide not to use it after all, it doesn't save the TIFF until you say so.

Victoria - this doesn't explain why my mac implementation (also 2.6 / 5.6 combination) still works in the original manner.

Well Ivan on my Mac it has opened the raw for some time now.

I'd go to Preferences > Reset Warning Dialogs and see what happens when you go to edit in PS. I'd guess one was set one way and one computer set the other, both with the setting stored using the 'do not show this dialog again'.
