catalog update

This is my first question in this forum!

Hello there cracks... I am pretty new to Lightroom so maybe I ask abvious questions. If so, shoot me (and help me), if not please help me.


I have created a catalog when I started using Lightroom. It felt like 'importing' my whole existing picture database into that catalog. But now I have added new pictures (in windows Explorer) and I don't see those pictures in Lightroom.
  • Do I need to take special action and tell Lightroom that he should notice this new map with pictures as well? If so, can I automate that?
  • Or should I import pictures from my camera to my computer through Lightroom?

Michiel, Welcome to the Forums.

Yes, you will have to tell LR to import those additional images, it won't do it automatically. While you can see folders on the left hand side of the LR Library display, that's not a 'live' view of your hard drive, it only includes those files and folders you've asked LR to catalog via import.

You can import straight from the camera (if your camera supports that), or via a Flash Card reader, or from the hard drive if you've already copied them from the camera.

Library menu > File > Import Photos from Device/Disk ... will get it started.
