Catalog Synced with Tree Structure

I would love to see that if import files to Folder with a subfolder that the whole tree structure would show in lightroom. For example.

This is my normal tree structure

2''8'1'1 JOBNAME/Originals


So when importing I choose the folder as tree/2''8'1'1 Jobname/ and pick the subfolder as "Originals"

At the moment , if I do this when importing, the folders would just show up with the name "originals". If i want to see the the Date and Jobname I must import it into the folder 2'8'1'1 Jobname and then when I'm finished with all the imports create the folder "Originals" within Lightroom. And mover all of the files across.

I find it cumbersome and I can't figure out why its done like this?

Further more if i move the files to a folder with a different name outside of lightroom can find it and chucks the whole catalog? Again does not make sense? Shouldn't lightroom be able to recognise all the files are together and
update the folder name in the Catalog?

Maybe I'm doing somehing wrong, but if not, a relook at how the catalog works will be agood idea. In general I prefer having a carbon copy of my tree structure outside lightroom inside lightroom with the exception that the whole catalog will ly within one "Pictures" folder with subfolder and subsubfolders for different clietns , dates and exports.

Import a dummy file at the top level of your folder tree. You can delete it afterwards.

As to why it's like this now, it's a long story and involves a narrow escape from something even worse. After all, in theory you don't need to know your folder locations if you use metadata (by comparison look at Aperture). A little late in the development of LR1, Adobe rightly recognized that its customers were asking for more visibility and control over folder trees. So LR1 at least has this half-cooked but just about real world approach.

Erm, guys, time moves quickly on.... R13. I've edited posts accordingly....

Jim, you're quite right, it's not in the Lightroom 2.' beta. Hold that thought!
