I have now actually lost all the settings of a shoot because I moved my images from the main directory to a child directory and then moved the whole directory to another drive.

When I wanted to "Find missing file" It says the folder already exists but does not restore them. Finally I synced the folders which removed everything from the catalog and I had to re-import the whole lot.

This is an area the guys at LR should really sort out. The folders should sync even if there are minor changes to the structure. LR should pick it the same files/

If it does find the folder it also just calls the folder the name of the child folder instead of the Main folder with a "child" inside. I thus I now have 5 "Originals" folders in my catalog.

I hope they can get this right. What happened to simple tree structures?

Sorry I know I'm blowing off steam , but I really think it needs to be fixed.

Did you do the moves in or out of Lightroom? If you do it inside LR, this should never be an issue.

LR is database driven. Why needlessly fool the database?

Thx. I'll check out the link... For now I'll stick with one folder at a time until I figure out how lightroom syncs them

I actually migrated my whole Macbook Pro to the New Macbook pro. Everything worked fine until LIghtroom started looking for the files...

It would link the "child" folder ( called Originals - I keep my files in a simple naemd date structure so it would look like this //2''8'1'1 Denver Portraits/originals. ) I normally do the whole import and then make a child foleder called Originals at the end of the shoot.

So now when I wanted to link up Origianls i pointed lightroom towrds it and it move my folder and just called it "Originals".

So onto the next missing shoot I first moved all the file in the finder just to the father directory ( ex : //2''8'1'1 denver landscapes ) This was done outside lightroom - I could not move them inside seeing that lightroom could not find them.

Then hoping lightroom would be able to find the files when I link them directly to it , it could not...

Probably did things in the wrong sequence... but still think this coudl be better...

I 'll check out Vitorias link to see how to do it right

Thx
