Catalog Mgmt - Two Questions

Did a search but didn't see these specific questions:

1. Is there any way to force a backup other than at startup, during my active LR session? I currently have LR2.2 set to back up "Once a day, upon starting LR". However, after a full edit session, sometimes I feel I should back up my catalog. I know I can change my pref to say 'every time' or 'next time only' and close/re-start LR, but I'd rather leave my setting alone and just backup. Note that I don't want to have LR back up every time it starts so I don't use that setting.

2. What is the recommendation WRT 'check integrity'? Do y'all leave it checked every time you run a backup? Obviously as my catalog increases, it's taking longer to do this.

As an aside, last night I did change my setting to "Next time LR starts, only", closed and re-started so I could back up (which it did). Then, I changed it back to "Once a day, upon starting LR". Today, when I just started LR for the first time (new date, I verified), I wasn't prompted to back up.

Hi Chris!

There is no Backup Now button. I'd suggest making a feature request using the link above or http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform. However, you should include your catalogs in your regular backup regimen and that is probably the best route to take.

I tend to leave the check integrity box checked. LR uses SQLite and there have been issues with that database engine so better safe than sorry,

I think someone (Mark Sirota, maybe?) noted that the 'once a day' backup option is smart enough to count 24 hours since the last backup, as opposed to the calendar date change.

If you do want an instant backup, select All Photographs, select all, and use Export as Catalog, with include negatives and previews both turned off. It'll do basically the same as a backup, only you'll have to choose where to put it yourself.
