Hi,

I'm new to Lightroom and would like to use it, but I have a hard time understanding the concept of a single catalog. I currently have four image files, they are: 1) RAW images, 2) Edited TIFF images, 3) Website images and 4) Note card images.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can incorporate these different files into a single catalog, or suggest another work flow process that will work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jim

Jim, Welcome to the forums. A lot will depend on exactly how you use the 'derivative' files. That is, #2-4 on your list.

Lr is mostly intended to deal with your original image files, the raws in your #1. In this scenario, you would create the derivatives 2-4, ad hoc, as needed, and discard them when the immediate need is complete. This drastically simplifies the time and effort spent in managing parallel 'filing systems'.

This doesn't work for everybody, of course, so the more details about your current workflow needs you can provide, the more pinpointed the advice can be.

It's helpful too, if you tell us about your system, software versions, even cameras and such. Many members just build a signature block via the User CP button upper left.
