Catalog compatible between MAC/Windows

I plan on going on a trip to South America so I need to buy a Netbooks running XP. Can the Lightroom catalog created on that be compatible with the one created on my Mac?

Does the serial work for both versions? I think your allowed to run Lightroom on up to 2 computers? Right?
