Can't upgrade from old catalog to LR 2.6

Hello,

I'm having a strange issue that I hope someone can help with. I just tried to upgrade an old LR 1.4.1 catalog to LR 2.6. It seemed to work, all the thumbnails were visible in Library mode, but when I select an image to Develop mode there is nothing there. Also, the source folder listed on the left side of LR shows no image files in it while the catalog under All Photographs and Already in Catalog show 25'' images. I've updated the folder location, synchronized it, restarted LR and the computer 3 times but nothing. The only thing LR seems to locate are a couple of PSD files that are in with the RAW (NEF) files.

Also, the thumbnail previews in Library mode will disappear and when I run the mouse/cursor over them they reappear. I've opened a couple of the NEF files directly from the source folder and they opened fine in ACR.

So does that catalog open ok in to LR1? You haven't got a filter turned on or something like that?

Yes, the catalog opens fine in LR1 on my wife's machine, identical except she is still running XPPro and LR1.4. I just upgraded to Win7 and LR2.6 (64 bit) but have not had this problem upgrading other LR1 cats on my machine. No filters are on. It's very strange that LR says there are no files in the source folder while the previews show up with all labeling and tweaks.

May not be it but worth a check:

If you brought her LR1 catalog to your machine by drag'n drop you may not have sufficients rights to it as it kept original rights. If you select "Copy" from the edit menu and Paste, then the rights will adapt to where you put it.

Hi Denis,
The LR1 cat was originally on my machine, I then copied everything over to her machine since she still had LR1 running. Guess I could try to copy and past it back and see if my LR2.6 likes it any better.

If that doesn't do the trick, I'd consider trying an Export as Catalog, parhaps a smaller chunk at a time, using your wife's LR1, and see if they open ok in 2.6.

Thanks Victoria, I'll give it a go when I get back in the studio. Still, any idea why LR is not seeing the RAW files in that folder?? Really bizarre.

Honestly.... absolutely no clue! If you had LR1 on your machine, it would be interesting to see if that saw it ok. Probably not worth the effect of installing that just to satisfy our curiosity though.
