Can't Save Caption

Hi!

I have a big problem. I Can't save Captions.

I have Vista Home Edition 64 bit and Lightroom 2.' 64 bit.

I can save the caption on .DNG files which is converted from .jpg but not .DNG files converted from .MRW (Konica Minolta RAW files, D7D and A2). Some pictures where I had added a caption before converting to .DNG I can uppdate, but not all.

I can edit the caption in Lighroom but it does not save it.


Edit:
After doing some testing I have discoverd that the embeded xmf data in the .DNG file is updated. But it dose not show in Lightroom 2.
There is a description field in the metadata file which is visible in the caption fileld of Lightromm 2, but when saving the caption it is stored in the xmf emmbeded xml data.

????

Lars, Welcome to LR Forums.

Are you requesting that LR do an XMP-write to the image file, either by pressing ctrl-S, or selecting Library menu > Metadata > Save metadata to file, or by setting XMP autowrite to true in Preferences > Catalog Settings?

Thanks for the reply.

I can change any metadata field except the caption field, and this is only with pictures taken with either of my two Konica Minolta cameras (jpg, raw or converted to dng). With pictures from an older HP camera I can update the caption.

I have found out that if I update the caption with another program (elements 6) before importing the picture in Lightroom, it works.

If I update the caption of a picture already in the Lightroom catalog with an external program, the caption is updated in the file but Lightroom does not update the info in the catalog. I get an error when syncronizing the metadata.

I have 6''' files in my catalog and as I can see it I have to remove them from the Lightroom catalog, update the caption to something temporary with elements 6 and import them again in lightroom.

Hi Lars, welcome to the forum!

I'm just catching up with a backlog of posts.

What does the error say when it can't synchronize the metadata on those fields?

I have the same problem as Lars. I'm using a Sony alpha 3'' with the raw format ARW which I convert to DNG on import.
When I change Title and save the metadata it is saved OK in the file, but if I change the Caption and save the metadata nothing happens with the file.

If I change the Caption from Bridge and then try 'Read Metadata from File' in Lightroom, I get the error:
'Reading XMP metadata' did not complete successfully, One photo failed.

I'm using Windows XP and Lightroom 2.1

Hi!

Victoria, when I change the caption nothing happens. I don't get an error. If i try to save the metadata nothing happens. If I move focus from the picture and back again, the updated caption is gone and the original caption is back.

If I save anything else (not the caption) I can see that there is brief message telling me the metadata is saved, I don't get this message when trying to save the caption.

I had the problem only with pictures from my KM A2 and KM D7D cameras.

This weekend i created a new LR2 catalog. Started to remove the pictures from the old LR2 catalog then importing them in PSE6, change the caption, save, remove from PSE6, importing them in to the new LR2 catalog. When doing this (6''' pictures) I forgot to change the caption for some pictures before importing to new LR2 catalog. I discovered that in the new catalog I could change the caption without first changing it in another application. Doing some testing with the new catalog, I could import pictures without changing the caption.

The old LR2 catalog was an catalog converted from PSE6 to Lightroom 2 (it began as a PSE2 catalog converted to PSE3 converted to PSE5 converted to PSE6). I guess that there must be some kind of structural difference, inside the converted catalog, for the metadata that caused the problem. In a catalog created from fresh in LR2 everything works just fine (I have not dicovered anything else yet :D).


AndresEng: I got the same error as you if I changed the caption from PSE6 without first removing the picture from LR2. That's why I had to remove the pictures from the old catalog before changing the caption.


I will put in a bug report.
