I am unable to open several catalogues that are stored on an external hard drive from a 2nd lap top using v2.3. I have no problem opening them from my main lap top which still has v 2.1. I get a message that says.
"Lightroom cannot use the catalogue named "xxxxx' because it is not writable and cannot be opened. This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalogue. You may try to correct the problem or you may select a different catalogue"
If I copy the catalogue to my lap top hard drive then i can open it. Its only when i try to open from the hard drive that it fails.

I read a thread from last year was similar but the problem did not seem to get resolved. There are no locked files being created. Also I am 1'' sure that no other application is using the catalogue.

This is not a major problem for me because I can still open with my main laptop but I would like to resolve the issue.

Could it be related to the fact that I am using v2.3 on the 2nd lap top or something to do with computer permissions relating to my 2nd lap top and external drives. I can open other files on my external drives such as Jpegs and word files etc.

Any help would be much appreciated

You are using Windows, right ?

I know this only on network shares, but the message tells you all.
The PC who created the file locks the permission to the user of that PC only. I also alssume you have a NTFS filesystem in use as there is no user control on FAT32.

A right click on the file should give you access to the permission control / user/group assignment where you can change it if required.

Can't change the settings

A right click on the file should give you access to the permission control / user/group assignment where you can change it if required.

A right click shows me the permissions but I am unable to change any of the settings. Anyway this does not appear to be a LR issue just a computer file permissions issue so I will try to resolve elsewhere.

Thanks
