Can't get Book module Auto Layout to show title text

Lightroom Classic version: 9.3 [ 202005281810-476e492c ]

Operating System

1. macOS 10.15 Catalina

Instead of pulling the text from the Title field, the Book module just says "Photo Text" below every picture. (Using LR 9.3 on Mac.)

When I save as PDF, it's just blank where the titles should be. See attached files.

What could I be doing wrong?

First, I assume you have added Titles in the metadata for each photo.

What you see- "Photo Text" is 'Filler Text', and this is set in Book Preferences. It does not print! but is only a visual guide that the Photo Text box is on the page and illustrating the set font and text size.
Check your options in Book Preferences - You need to select 'Title metadata'.

If you have this option set to 'Filler Text' then you have to manually type the text that you want for each photo, but what you type does not get added to the photo's metadata.

I like to use the 'Caption metadata'-

Thank you! I'd read several online articles about using the Book module, and not one of them mentioned book preferences, so I thought you had to do all your settings in the right side-menu. It's doing what I want now.

May I please ask you another question about using the Book module?

When two verticals with captions are stacked, Auto Layout puts the upper caption on top of the lower photo. (see attached screenshot) Is there a way to set the bottom padding or the Photo Text offset when using Auto Layout?

I've tried selecting a caption's text block, reducing the offset to 4 points, then clearing the layout and hitting the Auto Layout button, but the offset changes back to 9 pts.

As a workaround, I've found I can Cmd-click to select the bad captions and change their offset all at once, but that's hard on the eyes and prone to error.

Hi Russell, A few suggestions-
First -you can select multiple photo cells by holding down [Ctrl] and click on each cell (handles appear on each cell).
Then you can-
Adjust 'Cell Padding' to reduce the 'size' of each photo cell.

You can change (reduce) the Photo Text 'Offset' value to 'move' the photo text closer to the images.

And you can select each photo cell and drag the cell 'handles' to resize the cell to accommodate the Photo Text between the photo cells.

When you have the page designed to suit you- save it as a Custom Page that you can use whenever needed.
(Note: Custom pages are specific to one book page size eg, 8x10inch)
