I imported some Jared Pratt presets, and it says they are in LR but I don't see them when I look at presets in the left panel. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. I see others I have imported but not those.

Check if these presets require you to also install a custom profile. There is a bug in Lightroom where a preset does not show at all if it applies a profile that isn’t installed.

It didn't say if the presets needed a custom profile. I got them free on the virtual Summit I'm doing. Is there a way around it ?

It was on Day3. Under his photo were some free LR profiles. Unless profiles are different than presets.
Profiles are definitely different than presets! Profiles show up in the profile browser in the right panel.

Edit one of the .xmp files in Notepad and copy/paste its contents here. We can quickly determine if it refers to a creative profile.
