Can't find "convert to sRGB" in LR 2.3

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and LR. I have a quick question regarding Lightroom; does it have the function to convert photos to sRGB colorspace? I've found that Lightroom can embed a color profile into a photo, however I can't seem to find the "convert to colorspace" function. Is it even in the program?

I've been researching on the web for quite a bit but can't find a clear cut answer. It's been keeping me from sleep for a few nights now. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Pari, welcome to the forum!

Yes, but you're missing a primary bit of information - everything that Lightroom does is non-destructive, until you come to export.

So you won't find a command called 'convert to profile' within the main interface, but when you go to export it creates a new file with whatever converted colour space (and size, etc) that you fancy.

Wow, thanks for such a quick response!

However another problem arises, whenever I export my RAW files from Lightroom to sRGB jpegs and then try to upload them to Facebook, it would strip away my color profile and I am left with over-saturated photos. I just want my pictures to be relatively accurate to them regardless of whether or not their system is color managed or not. As I mentioned above, I can't seem to be able to achieve this with Lightroom.

Any ideas?

Is your monitor calibrated? If so, the best you can do is make them look good in Lightroom, export as sRGB, and upload them and hope for the best.

If you, like me, are bothered that Facebook strips profiles then upload to Flickr and import your Flickr stream automatically to Facebook. And complain to Facebook too.

P.S. They make look oversaturated to you on Facebook, but they might look undersaturated to others. It's no longer color-managed, so it's unpredictable.

When you export to sRGB, it should be converting to sRGB, and therefore look largely the same as within Lightroom. Can you show us a link to one of the problem images?

Hi again!

Here's the main photo that's causing my headache. It is exported via Lightroom and embedded with sRGB color profile. Once it is on Facebook, be it Google Chrome or Apple Safari, the skin color tends to have a red hue.

I also use ACDsee to manage some of my trivial photos but I mostly use it for it's metadata display. I notice that RAW images processed with Lightroom have this line that says "Embedded Color Profile xxx" but in the EXIF data tab it doesn't indicate its color space, whereas sRGB jpegs taken with the same camera lack the embedded color profile line but have a color space of sRGB in its Exif. The latter seems to have problems with color managed systems but not Facebook.

I'm close to giving up. Perhaps I should do what Mark says?

PS. My system is calibrated and profiled, should have mentioned that.

That's right. Lightroom embeds the profile, but does not manipulate the EXIF ColorSpace or InteroperabilityIndex tags. The camera, on the other hand, sets the EXIF tags but embeds no profile.

Facebook strips all of it, so it doesn't really matter in this case. So it doesn't matter whether you're using Chrome (which is not color-managed) or Firefox (which can be) -- the results will be inherently unpredictable on Facebook.

Thank you! Now that I am partially enlightened, I can sleep soundly.

Might I add that my experience with this community is, so far, beyond my expectations. The air is friendly and extremely welcoming.

Ps. I just understand what those icons(eg. Lg, Sm, Jm, and etc) mean. Nice touch.

I am thinking of a new, special icon just for Victoria. The letters "QV" or "LQ" seem to come to mind, but I am not sure that we could also fit a crown in that little icon box with the letters. Perhaps we'll just bestow a crown icon upon her without the letters? ;)

Simple: Above the logos and just under the username is a little text description...
You had JM a while ago and changed for ME at your 25th message. At your 25'th, you will get an SM.

Thanks Denis. I see those but does JM stands for Junior Member? That's what I was referring to. What does, ME and SM stand for?

I am a bit concerned that people see me on the web and the letters S & M come to mind! :mrgreen: I can understand that happening at work, but I work real hard to be a good netizen.
