Can't backup a catalog on closing/quitting

Multiple Macs, multiple versions of 1'.4, any version of Lightroom including 2.' (release)

I can backup a catalog in a multitude of ways when I'm first launching it and want to get to work, but I can't when I'm quitting and can walk away from the computer and let it do its work. And I can't when I'm done working with a catalog and want to backup while switching to another catalog.

I'm really surprised this didn't get fixed in LR 2.'. All the current settings do is encourage people to not bother backing up.

Excarnate, again, it's probably one for a feature request. Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form

As I understand it, the logic is simply that the backup is more likely to be interrupted when you're quitting, as you may also be shutting down the computer. That would mean corrupted backups and no way of warning you that the backup was corrupted.

If you were told that was the logic, then you were told a whopper*. I'll file a feature request on this, and the other pertinent items. After I get some sleep.

For non-American's, that's (nicer) venacular for "lie".

Excarnate, I can tell you for a fact that a lot of thought goes into each decision that the engineers make, and whether we agree with their logic or not, there are reasons for the decisions they've made. A feature request is a good idea - but not a guarantee that it'll happen.

So if you're sure that's a lie, do you have a quote from an engineer explaining why they did it?
