Hi
I am trying to open the 5D MKII RAW files on CS3 and i get "Program error". Lighroom shows the images fine but PS won't open them. my PS is updated and registered copy an I know that there was a problem with the new RAW and CS3, is there any resolution to that?

Thank you
Moshe

Cs3 doesn't support adobe camera raw above version 4.6. You will need to convert to dng file format before opening in cs3.

well that's just not cool. why would Adobe think that it's a good move to my quick workflow????
Thanks anyway...

If they have to keep updating old versions, they wouldn't have so much time to update new versions. There has to be a cut off point somewhere. You can use the free DNG converter to convert to DNG, which CS3 would be able to read as normal.

CS3 doesn't do 5dII files, but LR2 does. Just import them into LR first, and then use the 'edit in' option. I do the same, since I have no need to upgrade Photoshop otherwise.

Or use the latest DNG Converter to convert your Raw files to DNG. Then they can be opened in CS3

Haven't tried it but thank you. I am trying to better my workflow, I feel that this extra step will slow it down. I hope I don't have to get CS4 for THAT, I am so comfortable in CS3 zone... :)

Thanks again Richard.

You need to think back to film days - would we ever have found it acceptable if each new Nikon and Canon camera had required a new way of developing your film, maybe even forcing you to buy new developer, which of course should really be from them. That's where their ridiculous failure to offer DNG (as an option) leaves us.

If you say you "feel that this extra step will slow it [workflow] down", why not try it and see? Do it on import, writing the raws to a backup, and you'll find it isn't the case at all.

Your other point is about CS4. While I understand why a lot of people aren't upgrading, here are reasons why you might. Each of the first 4 features has been the trigger to upgrade for people I know.

- importing DSLR video
- content aware scaling - should be called "smart transform"
- targeted adjustment tool - should be called "adjustment tool"
- better Photomerge stitching
- Share my Screen
- a host of usability improvements (GPU redrawing, non-modal adjustment panels)
- vector masks can be feathered
