Canon 5Dmk1 raw into LR 3

Hello
I'd love to know how to import raw files into LR3 to get back that contast and saturation as per jpegs....

Can anyone advise?

Welcome to the forums, Kate

In order to do this, you will need to apply some of the same types of edits to your RAW file that your in-camera processor performs to create a JPG.

For my Canon 5D, I take LR's standard processing and add a Sat of +12 and a Clarity of +15 on import. (I also add a camera profile that I created using the DNG Profile Editor but that is another story).

Once you have tweaked the settings so that your RAW file more closely mimics your JPG (Those settings are primarily to your taste and everyone does it a little differently) you have a couple of options:

1. You can save your settings as a Develop Preset and apply it on import.
2. You can set LR to apply default processing based upon camera serial number and use the new settings (if you only use one camera you can just convert the develop processing.
3. You can sync up the adjustments between photos (most labor intensive)

My recommendation to you would be to shoot a few RAW+JPG photos and compare them side-by-side. Adjust the RAW photos to taste and then decide whether a preset or a default is the way to go for you.

Hey Kate

Go to the Develop Module, scroll down the right panel to the Calibration panel, and you'll find a drop-down with Adobe Standard by default, and other 'camera' options which emulate the camera's own settings. Pick the one you like best and sync it to the others. And save just that calibration setting as a preset so you can apply it in the Import dialog as you suggested earlier.
