Can LR Batch Crop to 5x7 and Export to Exact W x H Pixels?

Some of my photographs need to be resized to an exact W x H pixel count. I've tried exporting in LR using the reduce to W x H section but it seems that LR misses the H portion by 1 pixel (short) - even when I up the H portion by an extra pixel.

My imported .nef RAW files are 4x6 ratio, but the W x H ratio that I need to end up with is a 5x7 ratio (if that matters).

If LR won't do this for me, is there another program that will batch process this crop/reduce export that I need?

I also have PSE7.', Picasa, etc. but would prefer not to have to buy another program to get this done.

John, you first want to crop to the right ratio in LR (Grid view > select 5x7 fro Quick Develop is the quickest way) and then output to size. Rather than setting both width and height, I'd just set longest edge to 7" and the other edge should sort itself out.

Is it possible that the dimensions that you must match exactly aren't exactly 5x7? This could explain why Lightroom insists on doing its own math and coming up one pixel different than what you are looking for.

This is why I asked your pixel numbers in the first place. Divide small side pixels by long side pixels and you have to be close to '.71428571428571428571428571428571

Well... not that close but '.71 is not enough.

These dimensions are not exactly 5x7 (or 7x5), so the fact that Lightroom's resize is a pixel or two off is not unexpected.

I suggest when you do your crop, you select "Enter Custom..." in the size drop-down menu, and then type in 334 and 24'. Then, I would believe that when you resize to 334x24' upon export, I think you will get exactly what you want.

Yes, while Paige was posting, I was experimenting along the same lines, and I was able to output a JPG at exactly 334x 24'. I actually used 167 x 12' as the custom crop ratio, but no difference. (what do they say about great minds thinking alike? :) )

actually Brad, great minds don't think alike. That's why you can name people like Newton, Einstein, Boyle etc, but not their peers :P

Nevertheless as 2 power users, coming to that conclusion at roughly the same time isn't a surprise given both your experience!

Just noticed that I didn't have the black triangle next to "saved preset" pointed down in the quick develop module so I was never able to see that there was a crop ratio available there.

But I just used these suggestions and it was very easy - 1) select all, 2) choose crop ratio custom and enter 334x24', then output using my preset which resizes and sharpens and outputs to 334 pixels by 24' pixels.

The way to think with cropping in LR (although it equally applies elsewhere) is in ratios.

And I third as this is exactly what I do (exact ratio) to solve my annual problem of fitting football players' cards to a calendar template.
