Can LightRoom up-rez images to print?

I was wondering if LightRoom, like QImage has any uprezsing algorythms and sharpening it applys to image files sent to your printer when the image file is printed at a larger size than the image file itself was originally sized for?

Does than make any sense?

[/quote]Lightroom looks to have limite resizing capabilities. It exosts only on the Export function and you get two choices. Resize to fit an output format or not and a checkbos to "Don't Enlarge" There are some output sharpening options too, But LR dioes not disclose the algorythms it uses for resizing or sharpening.

It uses an intelligent algorythm depending on the original image size and the output size.

I just looked at kelby's blog from yesterday... I had asked that question there.. and son of a gun they answered. They said that LR uses intelligent up-rezing algorythms which are better than the ones in PhotoShop. I think that means they are probably quite good indeed.

Better for the majority of images but not all. Some will actually be better with PS's algorythms. Confused now?

Trial and error. Unless you're really really fussy, LR will do a great job. There are pixel peepers who will find specific images that they feel have upsized better in PS, but that's just getting silly.

I have found up-rezzing in LR & PS CS4 pretty good. There are better options if your not satisfied like Genuine Fractals.

Lightroom uses an adaptive bicubic algorithm for resizing. That is, it is like bicubic sharper/smoother, but instead of just three "levels" it adapts automatically depending on the amount and direction of the resize. It also works in linear space (that is, before gamma correction), which Photoshop cannot do.

(Before version 2.3, Lightroom used Lanczos.)
