Can I check, NEF and JPG

The reason that I take both is so I can see the colour settings that the camera recorded the shot with.

So does it matter what size I set it to?
Current I have it set to the largest so its taking 4MB per JPG so I am losing a third of a card for these extra images.

If you only need to see the camera-colour, the smallest one should be fine.

Simon, I don't think the file size matters if you're not going to be producing output from the jpg's. I'm speculating a little, but I believe the color/exposure will be the same; you'll be losing the high-frequency data, like sharpness/detail. Which will be OK, if you're not printing posters from them.

But, I'm speaking theoretically, and not from practical experience, so perhaps someone else actually knows.

You can change the setting in mid-stream, I'm sure. So, shoot some each way and find a happy medium.

Edit: It just occurred to me, there was a huge thread here started by user ATJ concerning handling of RAW + JPG from Nikons, perhaps he may stop by, or you could PM him for an opinion. He seemed to have a great deal of experience with that issue.

Yes. The size and quality settings won't affect the color rendition at all. I shoot raw+jpeg small/basic myself. It's very rare that I even look at the JPEG, but sometimes I like to compare my results to the camera results just for kicks.
