Can descriptions be attached to Labels?

In the Mac Finder you can attach a description to a label, e.g. RED "Action" etc

can you do this with the LR labels? e.g BLUE= 'Portfolio'
I have refrained from using labels as when I first tried thm I kept forgetting what I had set them for:roll:

Yes, in Metadata > Label Set > Edit, and you can also type text directly into the label description in the Metadata panel. I know Don Ricklin does this, so hopefully he'll come along and explain what he does.

In fact you can do label sets with different combos of colors with different text labels. You can even do text labels with no color! Boarder is white!

I think it's worth saying that you can have different sets, but the colour label field can only have one value. So let's say you've got a label set "Stock" visible, then pressing 8 makes the label green and puts the word "Gekko Images" in the label field.

You then change to the "Bridge default" set, and the picture will no longer appear to have the green colour, but "Gekko" in still shown in the Metadata panel. Set a colour now, and it removes "Gekko" and inserts the text from the "Bridge default" set.

If you're sure about what you're doing, then you can use these sets. IIRC Don types the text into the field instead of using sets, and that's a lot more dependable.

I think these alternative sets are pretty horrible and don't use them. YMMV.

Yeah, I don't bother with color, at all. I just use label texts (white) and they represent all my SmugMug galleries.

But Color labeling with your own text set can be good as a work flow indicator. Just use only one set, then.

If the image disappeared, you must have had a filter for label color (text is color of label) set. Changing the text would do that.

Try again without a filter on.

still trying to get workflow sorted and so had seta text to the labels but my attention span on a computer is about 1.76333333 seconds and I keep forgetting what I have set to what! aaagh! (pulls out hair - oh theres none left:shock:_:lol::lol

What I could do with to help my poor wee brain use an everso simple label set, is a little pane under collections that shows my label set. Opening it up every from the menu time is impracticable and prohibits setting labels at the same time as looking at the descriptions

(no wonder I was cr*p at history at school I couldn't remember anything but 1'66! Looks like I still have attention deficit disorder:lol
