Camera Specific Profiles

I'm running 2.3, so I thought that they had "camera specific" profiles. But when I check the profiles under calibration, I only see generic looking presets like D2X Modes, 1, 2, and 3 and Neutral landscape, and portrait.


There is nothing that I see that's specific to the D2''. So what's the story? Is this really an over hyped feature that really isn't a feature? Am I better off using the Camera Calibration script that I created in PS a while ago with the Gregtag card?

What should I be doing?

No, that confuses almost everybody. If the camera profiles are shown there in the Calibration panel, they're specific to the camera used for the the current photo. To convince yourself, just find a Canon CR2 sample file to download somewhere, and import it.

Nikon is a little screwy because they have 'styles' named for a camera model, which adds a touch to the confusion.

You will probably be better off using the DNG Profile Editor which is used to alter or create profiles.

Hard to say, the provided profiles are the very best efforts of Adobe's team at doing exactly that. At that point I'd say the tradeoff is between their excellent resources versus your personal taste. You're the best judge of invested effort versus the perceived results. ( I don't know how that comes across in tone, but I meant it helpfully (and not sarcastically) ).
