First: I'm running Lightroom 2.3 on the Mac with Camera Raw 5.3.

I've been learning the functionality of Lightroom slowly and only within the past few days learned about camera profiles for RAW files. The problem is that they seem to be missing from the drop-down list. For one of my cameras (a Pentax ist-DL), there are 3 choices: Adobe Standard, ACR 3.3, and ACR 4.4. For my other camera (a much-newer Panasonic FX15'), there's no list at all, just Adobe Standard.

I spent a couple of hours last night looking through forums here and elsewhere and did about a dozen different Google searches... I can't be the only one who's ever had this problem.

Can anyone out there help? Thanks....

LR's Adobe Standard is camera specific. Beyond that, I believe that the presets are somewhat represntative of camera makers offerings. For instance, Nikon offers a large number of picture controls that are mimiced in LR.

Also, it may be that your Panasonic camera was not supported in ACR 3.3 and 4.4, so they may not be offered by LR. I do not know for certain because I do not know the release dates fro your two cameras and those versions of ACR.

There are not profiles for all cameras.

I don't believe that either of your camera's have profile's out of the box. You would have to make them yourself.

I do believe that some Pentax cameras have profiles but the Pentax *ist-DL is not one of them.

The Pentax *ist-DL only has Adobe 4.4 and Adobe Standard for it. The K-1'D and later there is also a Pentax 1.'. But I'm not sure if that was part of the beta downloads or came with 2.3.

You may be right -- the ist-DL was never all that popular a camera, I don't think. It's not surprising that it's not supported.

Not so, however, for the FX15'. This is from a December press release:

Lightroom 2.2 supports the following additional camera models: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G1', Panasonic DMC-G1, Panasonic DMC-FX15', Panasonic DMC-FZ28, Panasonic DMC-LX3 and Leica D-LUX 4.

For RAW photos I've taken with the FX15', there's only one choice: Adobe Standard. Are you saying that Adobe Standard *is* the correct color profile for the FX15'?

Thanks to everyone for your responses so far.

The *ist D predates LR and LR fancy profiles started for Nikon and Canon, only! All other cameras there is only 'ADobe Standard' and the original ACR version where that camera was picked up and for some ACR4.4, when those earlier versions we tweaked, prior to the new Camera Profiles. LR knows the camera and picks the correct profile, while calling them all the same name!

Yes. For any recently released camera, Adobe Standard *is* the correct and factory default profile. This is what is meant by 'supported' by Lr.

For cameras released earlier than Lr 2.?, there may also be superseded/outdated ACR 3.x and/or 4.x versions, which are provided for backwards compatibility. For some mfgr's/models (mostly/only? Canon/Nikon) there are also additional specific camera matching profiles provided.

The D3'' is supported by Lr2.3 (actually since 1.3). I believe ACR support began with ACR 4.3. So CS3 with the lastest compatible ACR 4.6 supports the D3''.

Therefore CS4 is not required.

Missing profiles

I have read through all I can find and still not found the answer to my problem.
I am running version 2.3 on a Mac - I have checked in the computer library and find all the camera profiles but when I run LR and go to profiles only the generic profiles show.
How do I get the camera profiles to work?

thanks

What exactly are you finding?
LR only shows profiles for the camera that created the file, they are all named the same though. AD3'' file will show say Camera Standard and a D2'' will still show Camera Standard, the profiles themselves are different.

the list includes: ACR 4.6, Adobe Standard, Camera D2X Mode 1, Camera D2X Mode 2, Camera D2X mode 3, Camera Landscape, Camera Neutral, Camera Portrait, Camera Standard, Camera Vivid.
the images were made on a Nikon D9' -
So, If I understand this, these option are for profiles for my d9' even though they don't say D9' anywhere.
thanks

Exactly, they are named to mimic Nikon settings but each is for your camera!! Confusing, yes!!:lol:
In fact I'd like to be able to try some other camera types profiles but have no idea if it is possible.

No camera profiles in LR2.4 with CR 5.4 installed and Nikon

I have no options in the Camera Profiles popup menu- the only thing which shows is "Embedded". Absolutely nothing else, not ACR 5.4, Adobe Standard...

I am running the latest software- updater says that, and no updates available.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Rick, I would guess that you have jpegs or tiffs, profiles are only available for raw files.

Geoff- you hit it- the image was the one tiff in thousands! Thank you.

Rick

We have all fallen into that trap!!!:shock::shock:
Happy it was so easy!!
