camera develop settings not showing when importing raw file

I run lightroom 2.6 on the pc and on a mac. The pc runs windows7 and the mac runs 1'.6. When I import a Nikon NEF (raw) file, using the Develop Settings, I don't see any camera calibration options for the Nikon. I see the standard Adobe calibration options.

After the file is imported, I can see the Nikon calibration settings in the Camera Calibration area.

I am trying to figure out why I don't see this option to import using the specific Nikon Camera Calibration files when importing a NEF file.

Adobe has not been very helpful in providing information to fix this issue.

I think you may be confusing presets and profiles. You can apply a preset during import that contains the camera calibration profile. You can't see the calibration until you have selected a RAW image because LR doesn't know which profile has been chosen for the image until you click on it. The camera profiles are specific to the camera model also so LR won't know the options available that it can display until you select a file.

Select a RAW file and set the camera profile and its associated settings. Then create a preset that just has the camera profile an adjustments. Then you can select that preset during import and the settings will be applied automatically.

Thanks for your reply but I don't think I have explained what is happening correctly.
I am in the Library module. I select Import. I chose a NEF (raw) file. I then go to the "Information to Apply" area. I select "Develop Settings". I do not see any selections which are specific to Nikon NEF files. I should have seen a setting "Camera D2X Mode 3".

Once I import that file, I can go to the Develop Module, CameraCalibration. Using the drop down menu, I see the option to use the "Camera D2X Mode 3" option.

This used to show up in the Import area under Develop Settings but now does not. I run Lightroom on the PC (Windows7) and on the Mac (v1'.6). Prior to my upgrading to Windows7, I used XP Pro. When I reloaded Lightroom, this problem started. The Mac is new so it just started with this issue.

llevine, Nik is correct. The only things that will appear in that Develop Settings pulldown in the Information to Apply subpanel are develop presets. It appears that at some time, you had acquired develop presets designed specifically for applying only Nikon calibration profiles. These are now missing, somewhere.

So to solve your problem, you want to either restore your old presets, or you want to create new Develop presets, one for each of the Camera Calibration settings you want to use, which you can then select in the import dialog. Alternatively, if you always use the same one, you might want to consider applying it as a Default setting.

Or download and install Matt Kloskowsky's Auto Enhance Presets, one for each Camera Profile. I find they make a very convenient starting point.

The thing that I don't seem to grasp is the specific camera calibration settings show up in the Develop module in the drop down menu in camera calibration.

Those same settings used to show up in the library, import module in Develop Settings (for .nef files (raw). They still show in the Develop module but not in the Library module. These are supposedly standard camera calibration settings that are part of Lightroom 2.6.

I attached some screen shots. IMG_'749 is in the library, import, develop settings and IMG_'751 shows the Develop module, camera calibration drop down menu.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I screwed up with my attachment. This screen shot shows the Library Module, Import, Develop Settings drop down menu. It does not show the Nikon file Camera D2X Mode 3. That's the problem. How do I get it to show so I can use it when importing .nef files.

Asked and answered several times above.

In your first screen shot, the dropdown list is showing Calibration Profiles. In the second shot, the dropdown list is showing Develop Presets. These are *TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS*. It appears that at one time in the past, you had some Develop Presets that included a specific Calibration Profile as a setting. And now you don't, something happened to make that/those presets unavailable.

To create a new preset to apply the D3x profile, view a photo in Develop Module. Apply the D3x calibration profile at the bottom of the Right Hand Panel. In the Left Hand Panel, click the plus sign at the top of the Presets panel. In the resulting dialog, click 'Check None' at the bottom, then click the Calibration check box mid-lower right, make sure it's the only box checked. In the Preset name box at the top, type D3x Profile only Preset. At the bottom, click Create.

Now, you should have a Develop Preset whose only function is to apply the D3X Calibration Profile. Rinse, lather, and repeat for any other desired calibration profiles.
