Camera Calibration

Hi
On my base unit I installed "profiles" for my Nikon D2'' and installed into Camera Calibration, within the develop module. I would like to do the same on my laptop, but cannot remember where I downloaded the profiles, can anyone point me in the right direction, please. :p

Gone through 2.4 and 2.4, and did not realise :-[ However in my defence I have just installed LR2.4 on my Laptop, actually no defence......"hangs head in shame"

I have the latest version of CR but when I go to Camera calibration in LR I only see profiles for a broad range of cameras, at lest thats what I think they are. There are also things in the list like:

  • [li]ACR 4.4[/li]
    [li]Adobe Standard[/li]
    [li]camera Nuetral[/li]
    [li]camera D2X model 3[/li]

The last one is the only one that remotely comes close to looking like a specific camera or a range of cameras. i have a Nikon D3'' and I see nothing that comes close to that. Will there be such a specific profile? If not, what should I be looking for if i am shooting in RAW. Looking around a bit on the net, it seems that "adobe beta standard 2" seems to the the choice but I thought I would ask in here as well.

Also, since all my images seem to have been assigned with "ACR 4.4", how can I set them all to "adobe beta standard 2" without having to do each one? I tried highlighting them all in the DEVELOP module, and then changing the setting, but that did not work, they are still set to "ACR 4.4".

All the profiles you see are specific to your camera. Lightroom will only show you the profiles for the camera used to create the file.

The "Camera D2X" profilesare just following an unfortunate naming convention used by Nikon. Those looks were originally designed with the D2X, and have carried forward to all subsequent cameras. So it's a D3'' profile designed to look like Nikon's D2X Mode 1, for example.

You're seeing "Adobe Standard Beta 2" in your list? And you're running version 2.4? Do you also see "Adobe Standard"?

The beta versions of the profiles were for Lightroom version 2.' and 2.1, and were installed as a separate install. The final versions (which are identical to the Beta 2 versions in all but name) have been installed by default since version 2.2.

If you're seeing both, you can delete the beta versions from your system. Let us know and we'll help with that.

To change them all, there are a variety of ways. Two of them are, you can change one and then Sync the changes to the others, or you can change them all at once using AutoSync.

To use AutoSync, hold down the Command/Control key, and the Sync button at lower right will change to AutoSync. Press it, and now any changes will be applied to all selected images. Click the AutoSync button to turn it off.

OK, now that makes sense. I have also set this as the DEFAULT as well so I am assuming this will get applied to all NEF or DNG files.

Yes I do have both "Adobe Standard beta 2" and "Adobe Standard". How do i get rid of that and all the rest of the Beta versions that are in here?

What about profiles for D9'? I see D2x, camera vivid, camera portrait, but no D9'...I usually pick whatever makes my image look best.

Lightroom automatically select the profiles for your D9'. All those you mention ARE D9' profiles. They can bear the same name for a D8' but underneath, Lightroom will pick the good ones. Note that D2X here is a style as "camera vivid" is. Having the same name as the D2X camera is coincidence.

This discussion has been very helpful - I couldn't believe LR would be smart enough to know which camera I was using. That's a very cool feature. I have 3 questions:
1. So when you import, you should simply select the camera profile that best fits what you were shooting? I've got a Canon 4'D, and the profiles say camera portrait, camera landscape, ... (Then you can go on from there to adjust as necessary for each image.)
2. How far does LR's knowledge go - just Nikon and Canon SLRs? Does it also include Nikon and Canon point and shoots. (I sometimes just can't lug the 4'D.)
3. Does the camera profile also work in PhotoShop/Bridge when you're looking at RAW files in ACR (version 5.4)?

It works on all the supported RAW formats for the version of ACR being used. LR/PS/Bridge all use ACR so it will work in all of them. You can also set it to use the serial number of the camera so you can set different profiles if you have 2 4'D's.

And if you have raw camera files from your friends, downloaded sample files, or other sources, Lr will automaticaly deal with those as well. Provided, as Badger says, that your Lr/ACR versions support those specific cameras. So if your aunt sends you Phase1 P45 or Hasselblad medium format files from her pro studio, you can work with those, too.

The official compatability list is here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html . With Lr versions 2.2 and later compatibility with all of the supported cameras is automatically installed. Remember that currently only Nikon and Canon have Camera Matching profiles included.

And you can make your own using the DNG Profile Editor.

Great - thanks very much gang! Makes perfect sense - to find out whether LR has a profile for a particular camera, just click on a RAW image from that camera and look in Develop to see if there's a "camera" profile - very cool. Or check the list provided by Brad. I'm just starting to use LR, and I'm pretty nervous about what it might do to my 4',''' plus images, but it has exceeded my expectations thus far (except when, DUH!, I told it to render all the images and save all the metadata to XMP at the same time - that took all night!), and this forum is making me feel much more secure. Thanks again.
