Hi all,
Quick question. Bulk captioning

I have had a look but don’t seem to be able to find an answer to this problem (maybe I not looking in the right place)

How do you bulk caption a number of images when in grid view. I have selected a number of images and put the information in the caption field in the Metadata panel, but it only enters the information in the first selected image. I have tried this on three different computers, one running Lightroom 2 with does not work a two others running Lightroom Beta2 which does work using the following method. With Beta2 I would select the images I wanted then enter the information in caption field, enter it and then click on a non selected image and the information was added to all the selected images, but now with the non Beta version it only adds the information to the first selected image.

Whichever option I use it needs to be a quick process as entering the information up to 1' times or more or even copying is a bit slow.

Hi Peter

Doing it in Grid view *should* apply it to all of the select photos, and it's working on the Mac version, so report it if you can repeatedly replicate the problem. Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Other than that, try the Sync Metadata button at the bottom of that right hand panel. It's ideal for that kind of job - just select the files, hit Sync Metadata and type the info you want.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks, I will give it a try. I keep finding weird bugs in software like this, also had the caption reading problem form iView.

Thanks
Peter

You've almost certainly selected them in the Filmstrip, though with the Grid open. Make sure the Grid is active (eg hit G or hide the Filmstrip F6) and then try to apply the caption.

I do a lot of Title and Captioning for my galleries. On my Mac only Sync Metadata works for this. Grid view multi select for Title and Caption and some other Metadata does not work, I suspect, because Adobe Engineers expect they will more often be unique. Auto suggest works to mitigate this some.

Do fill in a Feature Request, though, because it would be nice if these fields behaved more like you would expect and be entered in all Grid selected fields for the same Metadata.

As for the original poster, Don, I think you're doing something wrong. I do this routinely and it makes no difference whether it's Mac or PC.

Works for me too - so perhaps more of a bug report than feature request

Maybe, though I'd bet on the Filmstrip being active and the Grid merely showing!

THis is as it has been for me for a long time and I always select in the Grid so I will do a Bug report.

Rob Sylvan has hit the nail on the head for me! (Posted elsewhere) The difference is whether you have Library Menu/Metadata > Show metadata for target photo only checked or not. I had it checked! With it unchecked Grid view will let you enter for ALL Selected images.

Thank you Rob!

All set now!
