Bug in print module in LR2.

Doing a little more testing on the print profile problem.

MacPro 1'.5.4 iPF9''' Canon driver 1.3'

What I found out is that when going to Print Setup under Color Matching I can choose Vendor Matching and then I can choose CM off in the Driver. If I then hit Print One the print is correct.

If I go to Print under Color Matching I cannot choose Vendor Matching. Both selections are grayed out and Colorsync is shown as checked. Of course I cannot choose CM Off this way. After I have once gone into the Print and then go back to Print Setup I can no longer choose Vendor Matching and have the same grayed out dialog under Color Matching. And off course the print is not correct this way with the double profiling that is going along.

Also it should be noted that selecting the cancel button in the Print Settings dialog brings about this behavior were it defaults to using colorsync and the Color Matching options are grayed out.

Close and restart LR2 and then you can have the Color Matching option back (in Print Setting) so that you can select CM off in the printer driver. Just do not select Cancel.

This behavior happens with all other print drivers, Paser776', Xerox12', Adobe PDF, but does not seem to happen with 3.'9 version of the Epson driver for the 96''. The Color Matching selection is not shown in the Epson Driver.

If possible, could you forward that data directly to Adobe? See the Bug Report link on the toolbar at the top of the forum.

But how exactly do you switch CM off in the driver? I have just bought this printer and although I am quite happy with it I am uncertain what the driver is doing. If I choose to manage the colors of the printout from LR2, does the fact that the options under Color Matching in the driver are grayed out mean that CM is turned off? What do Canon mean by 'Vendor Matching' anyway?

If the Color Matching options are grayed out then it defaults to Colorsync. Is that what you seeing? And, you cannot choose CM off in the driver.

What happens when you first open LR2 and go to Print Settings not Print. Are the Color Matching options grayed out?

If you are forced to use Colorsync there is a workaround.

When I first go into LR2 and then to Print Settings then I can choose between the two Color Matching options (if I cancel and go back in the options are grayed out as you describe). Should I then choose Vendor Matching if I want LR2 to do the color management?

If I then choose Print... and look at Color Matching in the driver, the options are grayed out and ColorSync is selected in the radio button. So which is correct?! Should I just allow the printer to do the color management and select the paper profile from the driver?

I'm extremely surprised & disappointed that this hasn't been fixed by the Canon-folk.

Refer back to my original post for exactly what is going on.

If you have gotten LR2 into the grayed out bug close LR2 and then open it again. Make you printer setting in Print Setting. Do not cancel in there and do not go to Print. Both of these actions will resurrect the bug. After saving the printer setting in Print Settings you can use Print One to print. This way you can choose Vendor Matching and the CM off in the Printer driver settings which is necessary if you want to have LR2 manage color.

The work around if you want to use Colorsync is to set the same paper profile in LR2 and in the ColorSync Utility. This is limited because you can only select (and in the driver setting) the media setting that are available in the Colorsync Utility. Change the profile for the media in CU to the same profile as you set in LR2. This is the same workaround as pre 1.4 LR.

As for the Canon driver being at fault, I have my doubts. Other drivers, where Color Matching is selectable including the Adobe PDF driver show exactly the same issues. And 1.4.1 does not behave this way.

The print issue is going to be an issue, until people realize what happens with color profiles and printers. All we do is color calibrate our monitors and that's it. I think the advantage we have in our studio is that we own two RA-4 processors the Sienna5''' up to 8x12” and the Kodak LED II professional printer up to 2'x3'”.

Color management w/LR2 and Canon

Running Leopard, LR2, and using Canon ipf 51''. Calibrated Apple Cinema Display and printer with xRite ColorMunki. Cannot point Print Settings to Custom profile I created for my configuration. Also the Color Management options grey out and default to ColorSync when i try to point to calibrated print profile. The problem goes away when I use LR 1.4.

Also have found that Canon print drivers don't load many of the PDE bundles needed for printing when LR2 is started in 64 bit mode. The PDEs are just lined out in the Print Settings dialogue window. Printing returns to normal if you load LR2 in 32 bit mode. Canon has been notified.
