Hello Folks,

I'm looking for recommendations for books LR2. I've read that Martin Evenings book maybe one of the best but I've reviewed the table of contents and there seems to be quite a bit of superfluous coverage on topics such editing tablets, monitor calibration, etc.

Any advice will be appreciated. Just for the record I've been using PS for quite a few years and use CS4 but I'm fairly green to LR2.

Thanks for your help,

Don Bryant

Hi Don,

Seriously, I read Martin Evening's book and Scott Kelby's. I sold Scott Kelby's via Amazon as it was too basic for my needs. Martin's book is excellent and I have read it from cover to cover (big book), but I will not part with it, as it is my LR Encyclopedia. I have been using LR since 1.' and love it. Have fun!!

Best,
Darr

+1 for Martin Evening's book, it becomes more understandable the more you use Lightroom. Even after 8 months of regular Lightroom usage I still occasionally refer to the book.

I have promoted Martin Evening's book on similar threads and I will do it again. As any advanced books availability- I am not aware of any. Maybe, the next step is to become an Adobe certified expert.

Reading the online help is always a good time :).

Seriously, though, if you're looking for advanced stuff, I would recommend the help. It can always fill in gaps. It's all that I needed to study for and pass the ACE (Adobe Certified Exam).

I haven't read it, but I would imagine that Victoria's book on LR FAQs would be pretty helpful to a more advanced user:

Also, if you want advanced tips and tricks, you'll want to look to blogs, many of which have owners that frequent this forum. They often provide more advanced workarounds, tips and tricks or other similar items that books don't yet cover. Some of the ones I frequent include:
http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/ (a little on the basic side, but often has some great tips)
http://lightroom-blog.com/
http://lightroomsecrets.com/

I'd also recommend searching to see if there is a Lightroom user group in your area. As the user group manager for the LR user group in Denver, I can say that it's a good source of knowledge, and allows you to network and chat with others who are using LR, both beginner and advanced. You can search to see what might be in your area here:

Thanks for that. I keep up to date (as far as I can) with tips and tricks published on the web. Agree with you on the help. It can be quite interesting to read. I pretty much know everything that LR is capable of doing but I was more interested in different ways of applying its capability. Don't know of any user groups here in Hong Kong.

Why, thank you, I do try! ;) There's a bit of both in my book - some questions you'll skip over as they're fairly beginner questions, and a lot of more advanced questions too.

There's Victoria being modest again! ;)

Victoria's book is a great resource and it is better at the "I've got a question...what's the answer" kind of situation.

+1 on Martin's book. I also enjoyed (and refer to) Mikkel Aaland's excellent Lightroom 2 Adventure
