Blanks between images

I have a big folder that has 2'' or so images in it. When I opened it, there was a blank image between each image. The metadat on the blank said 12.7 meg, if that means anything.
How did this happen? I can pick thru it and delete the blanks, but I suspect there may be a subfolder or something lurking in the blank slots.

What are the file types ? can you open them in preview ?

the blanks are just that, they won't open. The images are CR.2 camera RAW, no problem opening them.

When you opened the folder using what? Finder? What happens if you put a CR2 extension on the end of those blank files?

Uh Oh- the blanks are photos not recognized in this catalog. I managed to 'find' them on another folder. I will have to dig out the different locations. their locations were shown, but grayed out and hard to see.
