I've been highlighting and dragging folders from an internal to an external HD. It seems I have to be very careful when dragging or I'll miss the target folder. Also I've had problems when dragging more than one folder. Not all images are moved. Is there a proper way to do this? Can you move more than one folder at a time reliably? I've been highlighting the folders in Library and dragging them to the folder on the second HD.

Thanks for any pointers.

The drag and drop is one way of doing it Tom, and the preferred option for some of the gurus here.

That said, with almost all thing Lightroom, there is more than one way to do it.

Personally I prefer to use the OS or some file sync software to ensure that the folders move correctly, and then relink the folder locations within LR. It's just down to preference, but I've found it more reliable in my experience, even though it takes slightly longer to do in 2 chunks. If you're moving a group of parent/child folders, making sure that LR shows them as a hierarchy before you move them, means that you can just relink the top level folder and it'll cascade through the rest.

Thanks, Victoria, your two step method sounds a bit more reliable.

I've been using IdImager as my DAM software and LR for editing but thought consolidating would make sense. I still think using LR for both is a good idea but IDI allows a drag and drop with multiple folders that just works.

Thanks again,

Tom

Yep, drag/drop of multiples will be a welcome addition when it arrives.

Victoria,

I just bought your Missing FAQ eBook and wish I had bought it several months ago. It's full of clear and concise information. Great job!

Aaaaw, thanks Tom! I'm glad you're finding it useful.

I'm already thinking ahead to version 3, so if there's anything you or anyone else can think of, to improve or add to it, I'm all ears.

tom,

Greetings from "over the hill" via Highway 17. I do the dragging of the files. Do you recommend IDI?

Victoria: Should I wait for version 3 since version 2 would "outdated."?

LOL Version 3 is, I'd guess, a year away yet, based on previous release dates. I'm starting to think waaaaaaayyyyyy ahead.

Version 2 book is still up to date to 2.' and 2.1. 3.' is still a twinkle in the developers eyes.

Well since you asked!

PLEASE PLEASE implement sub menus in the Develop presets fly-out that you see when right-clicking on a photo in the Library module to mirror their folders in the Presets section in the Develop module!

Right now they are shown in a flattened list.
Like a lot of people, I have many presets installed and I have to scroll the list to get at my most used presets.

This more of a UAT bug and am surprised that this wasn't caught and fixed in Beta testing.
This has been a pain in my side since LR1.

Would hope for this to be fixed in LR 2.2 rather than 3.'

thanks!

Hi swankFoto, welcome to the forum!

I actually had in mind improvements to the book that the previous posters were discussing! LOL

I'd agree though, better sorting in the QD presets list is an improvement I've been asking for for a while. If I could change it, believe me I would. FWIW, they sort in alphabetical order, so adding an @ sign to the beginning of the name of your favourites will should bring them to the top of the list. And put in a request via Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form
