I've been struggling with best, or even good ways to keep track of exports. I am working with several other people in an organization to "document" some significant changes. We are sharing a DropBox account. Sometimes I post RAWs and edited JPGs or even TIFFs tro the shared account. Other times I
need to generate a few low-res JPGs for email.

As far as I can tell (and I could be completely wrong here  ) the LR catalog doesn't keep track of which images were exported, the settings, the name I apply, etc. Or am I wrong and there IS a way to keep track of this information in the catalog, which is much preferred.

If the LR catalog itself doesn't keep track of this information, what are good ways for me to do that outside of LR itself? For what it's worth, I have MS Office 2013 Pro Plus, including Word, Excel, and Access.

What I did was created a Custom Color Label set. I have Blue: export to SmugMug, Green: Emailed, etc. When I'm in Grid view, it's very easy to see which photos have been exported. You could could also put something in one of the Metadata fields, say add Dropbox to the Caption field or any field you're not using

Hope this helps.

Harley,

Thanks. I have one Color Label set to manage overall workflow.

I'm interested in some sort of analog to the History in Develop.

Have a look at Snapshot on Export or Run Any Command Plugin.

The first one creates a Snapshot when you export a photo. You can customize the name of the snapshot. The second plugin can run any command, so it mainly depends on your scripting knowledge what you can do.

I use the publish service. Especially the publish service for hard drive to create any exported image. This generates an entry in the history of the image, “published on…“ As well as creating a record in the public service for each image published. You can have more than one published service for the hard drive for different exported destinations. Published images are tracked only at the destination. And are not included as an additional import.
