My wife and I have a small business. It's primarily her business. She records audio guides, I'm the photographer. We work together on selecting and editing images for inclusion in the products. We would like to be able to work together on the same image collection without having to manage multiple versions of files of the same image.

Adobe has told me that LR is software for a single user, but I can imagine a lot of ways to get around this limitation.

I'm looking for any PROVEN ideas on how we might do this.

Limitations to consider:

  • [li]I'm the primary user.[/li]
    [li]I'm the techie[/li]
[li]She would do things like crop, add notations, create collections, flag images, etc.[/li]
[li]We currently don't have a NAS drive, but are planning to get one in the next year or so[/li]
[li]She has a license for Photoshop Elements
    [/li]
[li]We have our own PC's and work in different buildings, so sharing one computer isn't going to work, except in rare cases.[/li]
Thanks!

If you are getting a NAS, All you need to do is move both the catalog and the image files to the NAS. It is then available to any machine on the network that has Lightroom installed. Lightroom stores its catalog in a database that is single user (i.e. only one user at a time canu update) If you can live with that constraint, you will have no problem. I believe that LR locks the database to other access when one copy of LR has control of the database. So, if your wife opens the catalog on her networked computer and walks away, you on your computer will not have access untill she releases the catalog on her computer.

Yeah, that sounds like it would work - but I'd want to test to make the locking out works as it should.

Anyone know for sure if this will work?

If the catalog is on a network ressource, it will not work even for a single user. An external drive that you carry around and attach to the editor's machine will work tough.
