Backwards "Out of Memory - Ade:" on print

This morning I printed what I thought would be a family portrait and the resulting print was mostly gray with a upside down and backwards red formatted "Out of Memory - Ade:" printed in the lower left hand corner of the print. The stroke I requested around the image and my identity plate overlay printed fine.
I restarted my computer thinking this might be a memory issue with LR and Vista and the next print out was fine.

I guess when I want to start a printing session I should restart my computer but I hate to do this on a routine basis.

I have seen similar issues in the forum on the screen but never as part of a print job.

Am I on the right track by restarting the computer every time?

Anyone else with the same issue? Any ideas for what I need to be doing?

Hi Bob. It is indeed a memory issue, and one that's plaguing 2.2. Yes, restart should do the trick, and you could revert to 2.1 temporarily, until 2.3 is available.

But, I have to say that's the first time I've heard of the red 'Out-of-Memory' Bomb appearing on a print. I've only ever seen/heard of it appearing on the screen.

Is anyone still having the Out of Memory Ade: in red issue in LR RC 2.3?

When I attempt to print a large file (25 MB) I am getting a black print with an upside down Out of memory - Ade: in red. I am also getting this memory error on occasion when I am viewing in comparison mode. This error is just like the error I was getting in V2.2.
I watch the Lightroom process in Windows Task manager and the memory usage doubles during the print operation from 75',''' MB to 1,5'' MB. I have 3 GB of memory. Looks like the memory leak has not been fixed in RC 2.3.

Please excuse the overly basic question, but I just want to be sure -- when this happens, are you certain you're running 2.3RC and not 2.2? It installs as a different application, so your shortcut may still point to the 2.2 installation.

Once. Much less frequently. Interestingly it did that while task manager showed only about 5''mb used whereas under 2.2 it would usually be closer to 2g.

this is murder... Argh.

Lightroom is telling me that there are no Updates .... but I'm on 2.2

and getting this message... whilst ...

fixed the problem in XP

I was having the same problem in XP... you can watch it happening if you click help - system info in lightroom....
it eats up the system memory with a good panoramic..... No restarting or anything was fixing it...What to do is....

check your windows paging memory size.

control panel - system - advanced - performance settings - advanced and then change the size of the virtual memory... mine is now set to 46'6MB standard 6'''MB max.

now runs sweet as a nut thank you..

I am right happy with myself for figuring that out but even more delighted and gobsmacked by the print of Loch Erisort on the Isle of Lewis... Well worth a visit.

If you want to try out the version RC 2.3 you need to get that from the Adobe Labs web site rather than through the upgrade availability tab in LR V 2.2. Recall that RC 2.3 is still in test so it is not a real update.

I did get one lovely panorama out of it two nights ago, just after having enlarged the windows max page file size.
But for some reason no repeat today...
Next step.... Try what Brad suggested 4 steps back... Thanks Brad.

Double pants.

Release 2.3 is not helping.... stoll getting the upsidedown Out of Memory notice...

Rod, sorry, that really should have helped with memory issues. Standard troubleshooting steps are here. Probably won't help at this point, but ....

Ok ... big bloke nearly in tears with frustration moment here.....
please help.
It's still not working...
My problem could be that I use a large .jpg identity plate behind the image ....
so as I have a simple black border with text as I like it around the image..
file size is only 591kB but image size is 945' x 3862 pixels..... is this a massive problem?
How else can I get a simple to design custom border behind my image if it is?

Okay, Rod. I've reread the whole thread, and I'm not sure exactly what's happening to you.

What exactly is the problem? You're trying to print or export a pano? And having memory issues?

1) Can you print/export something like a 4x6?
2) Can you print/export the pano without the border?
3) You can add a simple one color border directly in Lr's Print module.

trying to print a panorama on A3 roll paper at 48'ppi.
the border (a large identity plate) displays in the background... but the picture area is a grey rectangle with "Out of Memory - Ade:" upside down and in the bottom left corner in red.

LR will print an A4
LR won't now print a panorama

it has done very well before.

Did you realize that you are talking about processing 95 mega pixels to the printer? Maybe it worked in the past with 2'' ppi rather than 48'...? :roll: Or, with smaller files. Panos/images in Lightroom can go to at least 3'''' pixels either side but the hardware should be built accordingly. Your big image takes memory and the ID plate take as much before being combined into that BIG output to printer.

Try by lowering your requirements like removing the ID plate and lowering the ppi at output...

EDIT: That Out of Memory message may not be a bug but a sad reality. Exception for the upside down but as printers output paper upside down, that may be wanted.

ok... got a print.
the picture had to be exported to it's own catalogue.
The ppi had to be borught down a touch to 465ppi.
The print sharpening had to be turned off....
but I have a print.
Now I want to try a slightly better one.

I'll dream about taking pictures instead of printing tonight.
