Backup scheme for Auto Import?

When importing from a card or disk, LR gives you some nice options to create backups and convert to DNG. I just started working tethered using the Watched Folder method, but this seems to eliminate those nice built-in backup options.

How are you folks that shoot tethered dealing with backup?

Shooting tethered into LR is slow enough as it is. On shoots I usually import pics into a folder and use Chronosync to back that folder up to an external HD when I get a chance. I don't like dealing with converting to DNG on set. If I'm working with other people, I let them deal with that themselves. For my own stuff, I usually convert to DNG when I can set it in motion and leave it to do it's thing.

I usually have the file go to the memory card as well, this gives a 2nd copy in case of immediate issue. With tether, I usually make my Picks as I go and back these up after. I don't really need to keep the misses.

I'm writing to the card, too. I think I'll keep it that way and then try to come up with a post-capture back-up plan.

This makes me think it would be a great feature if they would add Actions to LR or easy linkage to a Droplet that you tailor to your own needs.

You can put a MacOS X Folder Action on either the watched folder or the folder to which Lightroom moves the file, which will initiate a backup copy.

I've never looked at these before. I don't see one listed here that suggests that it does a straight back-up by file type. I see dupe as JPEG, PNG or TIFF, but I'd like to back up the originals.

If there isn't already a straightforward "copy file" sort of action, you can create a new one with Automator, or even write one yourself in Applescipt.
