Background Object Removal

I have a picture with one annoying item in background ..... is there a way to remove easily (neatly) with LR
I have been trying spot removal and heal brush but not getting very far.

See these adds for slick background removal for pictures ... but can't warrant buying such an App for a One-Off

It depends on the object, background and size. You can try 'Clone or Heal' but is not intended for large removals. For that you need PS.

For example, I take pictures using a lens ball on a tripod. I'm not a PS user but found some tutorials that showed me how to a) Rotate the image in the lens ball and b) remove the tripod. I could never have done that in LrC.
