"Back" button?

Is there a button or Key for going back to the folder you were just in ( or doing what you were just doing previously?

e.g. Sorting images from 'archived' ( a huge folder of scanned negs -pre digital) and sorting them into collections, each time I have to scrol down to my collections, (and go in to check the hsots, create subfolders etc) then scroll back up to the 'Archived ' folder, I wanta keystroke or button to just take me straight back each time

Nice idea, I could see a use for that. Put a feature request in!

not sure how to word it, because command -z will sometimes do it, but what if you want to keep going back and forth would command-z and shift-command-z do the same job?
I presume not but can you confirm for me?

I am not at all sure this is what you want, Simon, but have you tried using the two Arrows to the left of the file Path and Info in the Toolbar? If one has just been wondering around in the modules it will they will take you back and forth trough those wanderings.

I don't use them myself.

Thanks Don, but not really they seem to either chnage module or pic, close though
Im thinking this idea is a non starter though

Is "Alt Ctrl Left Arrow" what you're looking for, "Opt Cmd Left Arrow" on Mac?

That's LR's generic error message instead of saying "I don't know WTF is happening" so there's something wrong somewhere. Try creating a new test catalogue and importing a few images, collections etc, and then try those shortcuts. But they are the ones I think you're looking for.

There is also a "back button". Its on top of the filmstrip, second graphic from the left. The first takes you back to the grid, and the next two are back and front buttons. Then the path for the file.

Actually I mentioned these in post #4. Seems it wasn't quite what Simon wanted?

YEah, I used different terminology, but I feel I was talking about the same thing. But, who knows, maybe that's why it didn't work for Simon and maybe it will now?

Wow. I tried that and it rotated my entire monitor view 9' degrees. The right arrow rotates 9' degrees the other way and the down arrow flips it upside down. I never knew that my monitor would do that.

Apparently this has nothing to do with the 'Back' button thread, just that you have an unusual Monitor, Sandman!

Save some for me Geoff. I've never use those either.

If I read it correctly, the OP has dragged some photos from a folder into a collection, looked at the collection and wants to get back to the folder, preferably to the photo or photos that have just been dragged.

What I've been doing, which works as long as I can remember which photo(s) I've just added :? is select the photo in the collection and on the Metadata panel click the arrow to the right of the folder name which is "Show this folder in Lightroom".

If I didn't read it correctly, ignore the above.

but actually it's no quicker thna scrolling back up to the folder IF the metadata panel isn't showing but it might just have the edge otherwise

howmsoever... I have just discovered the flaming obvious... that command +Z will do it! However I am VERY reluctant to use that because it would be to easy in a hurry to accientally do changes to the image (or even undo a recently made foldr?) and not realise..

So.. as yet nothing does what I want.. need something like 'return to master folder' with 'designate master folder' option

You can also right-click on the image, and use the menu command "Go to Folder in Library". This command is also in the Photo menu.

aha - thanks.. the choices are endless! nice to have another choice but really no faster than scrolling back... command+Z is the fastest .. but most dangerous way...to flip back and forth.. and often the L+R arrows will do it as long as only one move has been made...
