I just made a collection froma dozen images and then wanted to go back to where i was in the previous folder. I pressed the left arrow at the lower LHS hoping it would return me to where I was

However in LR whilst it may take you back to the previous folder when you click the back button, it tales you to the top of the folder which is useless if that folder contains thoussands of images

Maybe you could look at your folder structure, what is it??

Yep, experience shows that a folder structure like that can lead to confusion. It seems the most common now mat be
2''8
2''8.'1
2''8.'1.'9 Name of job

This keeps days and or jobs in separate folders which makes for easy location of files an shifting of folders.
You may want to review your folder structure, that is what I did early on with LR and now have an easy access, manageable and managed system.
