Autorun dc/dvd slideshow creation

I am trying to create a cd or dvd featuring a slideshow i created in lightroom to share. How would I do that?

Hi thorkenbach, welcome to the forum!

LR doesn't currently have the ability to create cd's or dvd's of slideshows, but many cd/dvd burning packages do. LR can output your slides, complete with borders etc, to jpegs, which you can then set your normal cd/dvd software to turn into a cd/dvd show.

Given the subject of your post (autorun), if you are on windows then look here! I use it since long ago and it is working fine for free.

EDIT: Can also be used for Web slide shows...

Roy, sure, but it involves the end-user having a PDF reader of some sort available, and doesn't necessarily provide any 'autorun' capability. OK for your computer jock friends, probably less so for sending to Granny.

The original poster really didn't provide enough info, as to the intended display device. There's a big difference between CD/DVD intended for a computer and a DVD for use with a DVD player.

There is no need to understand HTML Roy. It just say that you can start anything by providing the proper arguments. So, you can automatically start an index.html file as well as an Slideshow.pdf file.

Generate a gallery in the Web Module and save it. From where you saved it, copy index.html, and the two folders bin and resources at the root of a CD or DVD. Open index.html from the CD or DVD on any computer.

If you want it to "autorun", download autorun.exe, create a file named autorun.inf and optionnally create or use your preferred icon file (*.ico). Write the following into autorun.inf:
[autorun]
open=winopen \index.html
label=My first auto slideshow or any title
action=View My first auto slideshow or any title
icon=YourPreferredIcon.ico

Before creating the CD, copy winopen.exe, autorun.inf and YourPreferredIcon.ico files at the location where the index.html file was generated by Lightroom.

Copy index.html, winopen.exe, autorun.inf, YourPreferredIcon.ico and the two folders bin and resources at the root of a CD or DVD. It will be autorun at insertion in a Windows machine. Mac OS users will still have to open index.html manually tough.

May not be idiot's language but simple enough I hope ;)

Thanks Denis, but I must be a bigger idiot that you think. For instance, I don't understand 'at the root' of a CD and I don't understand how to 'create a file named autorun.inf and how to put that on the CD.

Am I being a pain?

Don't worry. We all remember that once, we were beginners...

To create the file autorun.inf, open Notepad, write the lines starting with [autorun] and ending with .ico in my previous message and when it is time to save give "autorun.inf" including the quotes and place it where Lightroom created your index.html file for that gallery.

Root only means that there are no folders above that place like when ou look at your C: drive. If you look at C:/Program Files you are not at the Root anymore. So Root of the CD just mean that you won't create a folder on the CD to put your files in.

To burn a CD with your system, look in Windows Help and type Burn CD as this can be slightly different from system to system.

If I may...I have been exporting from LR slide show module, and then using ProShow Gold to create the actual slide show. It's not expensive, and very easy to use, it's mostly drag and drop. You can also add music to your slide show, getting the timings right is a piece of cake, and there are several hundred transitions to choose from. You can make CDs and DVDs. It's pretty good and so far the resolution of the images has remained pretty constant.

I agree Eric. But on the other hand, the other way is free.

There's also a free Lr plug-in for ProShowGold owners. Personally, I don't find that it's worth the trouble, but YMMV ......
