My computer is very slow, which makes editing very time consuming. When I click on the next photo to show up in Develop mode, it takes awhile to load. When it does, sometimes it looks better than when it finally loads. Why is this and is this actually how the photo was taken, then it applies some kind of auto setting? I double check the 'as shot' drop down, and it stays the same. Why is this and should I trust that the image will look the same once it's batched? thx

Hi Lisa

Are these raw files, or jpegs? If they're raw files, have a read of this excellent post by Brad: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/showthread.php?t=15''

Whatever it looks like in the Develop module, is how it should end up though, so you don't need to worry too much. Just get it to a point that you're happy with.

Wow, so I wonder if there are automatic settings for the Nikon D3'' with the new Lightroom Version? Have they gone over well, or is it better to make custom settings? I shoot so that I'll get a RAW and JPG file. My images look pretty good as jpgs but then I import the RAW, to make slight color balance changes, and I end up playing with the exposure too, it takes me so long to adjust...any advice? thx

You're running LR2.2 or 2.3? Have a look down in the Calibration panel in Develop module and you'll see a number of different options in the dropdown. Have a play and see which ones you like - some get incredibly close to the camera jpeg, without having to fiddle, and once you've decided on the one you like, you can always set it as a new default. Then you'll only be adjusting exposure and white balance, rather than starting from 'scratch'.

Calibration

It's version 2.'

All I see is ACR 4.3 and ACR 4.4 as the profile choices in Calibration. I've never played with these settings before, am I looking in the right place? Do I need to download something else and where would I find the Nikon settings for my camera if there are any.
Thanks so much.

You will need 2.2 or 2.3 which ship with the Camera Profiles installed.
I would go straight to LR2.3RC which is a release candidate and seems extra stable here:http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.3

D/load and install alongside your 2.' and restart LR with 2.3 and you will see the profiles for the camera the files were taken with.

Thanks. Now i'm wondering if I use this new version with these camera profiles, will they take care of any exposure issues, or just color balance? My files are overexposed in Lightroom in RAW, but look fine as JPGs. I have to adjust everything, and I'm really getting impatient working like this for all my weddings. My Nikon 8'' flash is another problem I guess, since even during family portraits on a tripod, I get inconsistencies. I must need to wait like 5 seconds for the flash to recharge....

They won't sort the exposure if your exposure was wrong in the camera, and they won't fix an incorrect white balance if your white balance was wrong in the camera, so you'll still need to sort those yourself. What it will do, is get the raw files to look like the camera jpegs, so it gives you a nice clean starting point.

And definitely go to 2.3RC - fixed tonnes of bugs from 2.'.
