Hello!

I've just upgraded from 1.4.1 to 2.' and experience problems with the auto white balance. The problem causes LR to freeze, using 5'-8'% cpu, and Windows stating the application is not responding.

I can reproduce the problem in two different ways:

1) Open a file in develop view that was previously edited with auto white balance in LR 1.

2) Use the auto white balance in develop view, no matter if the file was originally imported with LR 1 or LR 2.

Anybody else who have experienced the same issue?

My configuration:
  • OS: Windows XP SP3
  • 32-bit
  • Where are the files stored: Internal hard drive
  • 2 GB RAM

Climber, Welcome to LR Forums. I know I've seen the problem reported elsewhere, but I don't know any details. I just wanted to acknowledge your post. I'm hopeful another member will have something to contribute.

I'm working with raw files.

I don't usually use auto white balance either, and have found this workaround when I need to develop old photos where I've used it: I create a virtual copy and reset all settings from library view before I open it in develop view.

I have had this problem on a few images. I can crop, changed anything else but as soon as I hit the auto WB it freezes. I tried it on a virtual copy but it still froze. I tried it on a renamed image via PS3 and...hey presto no freeze. It only happens very occasionally on the odd image. I have tried to work out if there is something different about the images it crashes on but cannot.

Hi guys, welcome to the forum!

Can you try something please? Does it work in Quick Develop in Library module?

And while we're at it, AMD or Intel processors in your machines? There just seems to be a link with some VC weirdness, I'm wondering if this is related.

I, too, am experiencing this problem. It happens on 5% to 1'% of my images. It fails on both the desktop Windows XP and laptop Vista machines. I use an odd custom WB for shooting and have been applying Auto WB on import.

I think that it is not the auto WB code per se, but, if it is run first, it sets up some condition that causes the hang. If I import without Auto WB, then run Daylight WB, then Auto WB, there is no problem. The problem seems to only occur if Auto WB is run first.

I can try to email a known bad image to Adobe if that will help.

Alan, thanks for the info. The development team sometimes does ask for sample problems from users. Haven't seen a request in this area, but if the need does arise, I'll let you know. (The most recent request was for catalogs that have capture time sort order problems.)

If no one has said so yet, Welcome to LR Forums.

I tried Auto WB in Develop module a few weeks ago and really like it, but it started freezing LR2 just like other people report and now it freezes with every image. It usually freezes on the very next slider adjustment after Auto WB is applied. I was going to re-install LR2 but now see that many users have the same complaint in various forums. Hope a fix comes soon as Auto WB seems to work pretty good. I have a relatively fast processor with 2GB RAM.

The fix is out! See the 2.1 Labs announcements elsewhere on these forums.
