auto import settings problem d2x

Trying to set up a wifi connection with Mac and import to LR procedure. Why does the new version not give the option to copy to a new folder? Now i only says "Move to". This really seems to upset D2x as the file appears to get moved before the camera has finished sending it! The camera then freezes terribly - all lights flashing!!!
WHy should LR 2.1 need to move the pictures to a new folder?

Oh dear John, that's not good!

How do you have the camera hooked up? Because in theory, your remote capture software should be in control of grabbing the files off the camera, putting them into a folder on your hard drive, and then LR grabs them from there, in which case LR doesn't go anywhere near the camera.

It's wifi to macbook pro. Saved to a folder that LR watches. BUT as mentioned LR only has one setting - to move pictures to a new folder. WHY does it need to do this?

LR seems to be too quick for the Nikon. It seems to think the image hasn't transferred properly and hangs. It's my friend's camera and he's never seen it hang like that before. He tethers it to Photo Mechanic successfully. So it must be something to do with the moving of the files.

You could well be right John, although I haven't come across it before. How about trying an automator action that copies from that folder to another folder, and get LR to watch the second folder. I'd have thought that would solve it. And put in a report via the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form

I've added a bug report. Can you confirm whether I was right in the auto import settings that LR1.4 had copy to and LR2.1 is now move to...? If So WHY has this changed? Again I ask also WHY does LR need to do any of this and cannot leave images where they are and reference them from there?? Any other Gurus care to comment?

Where do I get the automator action from - I may try that till this is fixed.

The reason it moves the image to another folder is the watch action only works on an empty folder, by design. Grabbing the image erly is a separate issue. Other's have had that issue, even with using the camera's tether software to populate the watch folder. I think Victoria's solution of an action to move the image to the watch folder from another will be the way to go.

I've just checked 1.4.1 - that was 'move' not copy too.

PC - not a clue!

Mac - I've just tried this, seems to work...

Open Automator and choose Custom.
Look under Files & Folders section > Get Folder Contents and drag that to the work area on the right.
Look under Files & Folders section > Move Finder Items and drag that to the work area on the right. Set it to LR Watched Folder.
Go to File > Save As Plugin... called LR Watched (or some such), set to Folder Actions, Attached to Folder: Wifi Deposit (or wherever your camera deposits the files). Check 'Enable Folder Actions. Press Save.
Then test it. Drop a file into Wifi Deposit folder, and it should move to LR Watched Folder.
