Auto Color / Auto White Balance adjustment issue

Hi everyone,

I seem to be having an issue with the Auto Color adjustment in Lightroom. It seems to make everything TOO yellow. The auto color in Photoshop seems to work just fine for me. I understand they're working in a different colorspace, but what is causing my auto color adjustment to work so poorly? Is there an adjustment I can make in LR?

Rich, a little more detail if you would, please.

Is it the Auto Tone, or setting White Balance to 'Auto' , which is causing the problem? (Or both?)

Rich, I'm sorry I posted a reply last night, but it doesn't seem to be here. I guess I was distracted, and messed up.

Auto tone is fairly fairly well known to be unpredictable in the 'happiness' of its results. I don't know how it actually works, although I suspect it tries to spread the histogram to take advantage of the highs, but sometimes I get great results, and sometimes I get 'mud'. Maybe there'll be improvements in the future.

Setting WB to 'auto' is basically a first step. Have you tried using the WB eye-dropper to select a target neutral in the photo? That should make a large improvement.

I've recently shot several thousand RAWs indoors at local highschool basketball games. I shot higher ISO, without flash, to get a higher burst capability (my basketball reflexes aren't good enuf for 'single shot') The gym lighting is problematic, because those overhead lights are neither fish nor fowl, they're not tungsten, they're not fluorescent, they're not 'daylight'. When I got the whites to be white with WB eye-dropper, everything else was too yellow/green.

I used the TAT (targeted adjustment tool) in the HSL panel, to tweak Hue and Saturation to pull down some of the yellow green.

If your shots are all in the same light, you can get one photo satisfactory and then 'sync' the results to all the similar shots.

Again, your question isn't super clear on what exactly you're doing that you're unhappy with, so let me know if I've missed the point somehow.

Brad... using the Auto WB dropper worked like a charm!!! I just clicked it and slapped it on the white object and it worked like a charm just like you said. Thanks a bunch.

I can live w/o the auto tone especially if u say it's hit or miss for most people. I'll roll the dice once in a while but AWB works now although it would be easier to bulk process if the dropper wasn't needed.

If you have a bunch of photos from the same lighting conditions, it's very easy to sync them all to the same WB/Tint , etc and then just deal with the exceptions.

If you need guidance with 'sync'ing, just start a new thread, and we'll deal with that there. (We seem to have an obsession with staying on topic here :cheesy: , which is probably a good thing)
