Auto Adjustments on my imported raw files not wanted. :(

When ever I import my NEF files (doesn't do this with JPEG), it shows the original photo as my camera took it with a little loading screen at the bottom, then it suddenly adjusts all the sliders and auto-tones it and what now. It ends up being darker and the colors become desaturated. I HATE this! Please help!

This is the way it is and should be. Rather than repeating again (as this is very frequently asked), go read this topic and you will clearly understand...

It does not have to be that way. Canon files look too bright and with low contrast.

The quote there does not help. There is no a "None" preset in LR 1.4, that I downloaded recently. And there is no reason the default auto LR processing to be always wrong (in the same way).

In the import dialog, in the import presets dropdown, there should be one called None at the top of the list. That stops it applying any presets on import and just applies default settings.

The link that Denis posted simply explains that a raw file is not image data - it has to be processed to create an image, and each raw processor will do that differently. None is right or wrong, but only the manufacturer's own software will be able to match the in-camera jpeg. The solution is to adjust a series of files to match the in camera jpeg, and save those as your own defaults to apply to raw files. The whole point of raw is that you can process it to your own taste.

I'm going to close this thread as we've discussed this to death recently, but I'm sure you'll find some more really useful threads when you search. Try terms like 'raw match jpeg' and you'll come up with some useful threads explaining it more fully.
