  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

I have a sony a7ii and an old 2008 MAC desktop at OSX Yosemite 10.10. The ARW files will not open in either the Mac desktop or the LR 6 Library.

Your Sony Version does not match any on the Supported list Cameras supported by Camera Raw You need to be more specific on the Sony model.

Probably your camera was released after the version of LR 6 that you have installed. LR6.14 is as far as you can go to get support with a perpetual license. If your camera was released after that, then you will need to either upgrade Lightroom to a Subscription or convert your ARW files to DNG using the free DNG converter.
The Same thing will exist with your OS The Current release of MacOS is 10.14.x. Obsolete (legacy) versions of the operating systems will not have CODECs upto date with newer cameras.

The camera IS in the list, Cletus....2nd entry in the Sony section, which only needs 5.7.1 for raw support. So some additional information is needed as to the specific nature of the problem, e.g. error messages.

I thought "sony a7ii" might be "A7 II (ILCE-A7M2)" But it should not generate a failure to import. It could have been an imprecise reference to A7R II (ILCE-7RM2) or "A7S II (ILCE-7SM2)" All of which are supported by some version of LR6.x and it is not clear which version of LR6 rugg007 has installed.

Sure, we need clarity on several things: Specific camera model, actual LR version number, and specific details of the problem being encountered.

Gentlemen....the photos did import as ARW into LR 6m, but i cannot open other than in the Library Mode....they dont open in Develop Mode...after careful looking into the ar7ii, i discovered they will open in LR 6 Compressed but not Compressed.....as to the Mac, i am sure i will need a updated version. My only other choice is to choose an App to convert the files to Raw, but i am not sure which is the best to install? Any suggestions will be gratefull....thx

Sony a7ii mirrorless camera..... Lightroom version: 6.0 [1014445] Using OS Yosemite 10.10 Specific problems are: ARW files from Sony a7ii camera unsupported in both LR and OS systems, yet in LR files will open using Uncompressed mode in the camera settings. Files in OS Yosemite system do not open at all.....Looking to upgrade OS system this Fall when $$$ is better, but until such time, would like to know best Converter application for the files in order to open them on my OS and perhaps the compressed ARW files in LR...

You could convert them to DNG with the free Adobe DNG converter. If you choose to embed the original RAW you can go back to them later.
