LRC and Photoshop Beta worked fine and I find myself using the latter a lot ... until that is until yesterday when I was told this version of Photoshop Beta no longer worked and I had to upgrade to the latest version. However, that latest version does not work with Lightroom Classic. So we are being forced to upgrade to a broken program ...?

The Beta version is esactly that - not the version that comes with Lightroom Classic. There's always possible issues with Beta versions, it's a risk balanced by a desire to try new features. To eliminate the risk, wait until the official version is released.

It works, but the Edit In is often an issue. Ones using the Beta have thankfully found this, it was flagged with Adobe who have responded and it'll be fixed in the official release of Photoshop.

I'm not sure how that's arrogance - it's an opportunity for those that choose to see the upcoming features, and also give feedback before the majority adopt the new version.

No, you're not being forced to use beta software at all. You can use the officially supported release version. Beta's have big bugs, that's why they're beta's.

Maybe I did not make myself clear. I am being "forced" to use the latest Beta because the support for the previous beta is stopped. This has not happened with other older betas, but now, if you want to use the beta, you have to use a beta that no longer works with LR. Pushing that through is arrogant from my perspective.

This too is simply a part of the app being in beta. Things change between versions, sometimes quite a lot. It’s just that in this case the newer version has new bugs, making you want to keep working with the discontinued version. Normally, you would simply install the update and not complain.

Arrogance was perhaps not a very fortuitous choice of words. I accept all arguments about betas and the problems associated with them and have indeed in the past had to adjust versions by downgrading in order to keep everything working, but now that route has been cut off and that I find very annoying.
PS. Thank you all for not mentioning that we should be "grateful" to Adobe for "allowing" us to work with betas.;)

What is the latest version? The CC icon lit up the other day so I updated as I always do. It's showing PS 2023 and 24.7.0. I keep reading about Beta but I've never seen that name when I open the CC app.

Go to Creative Cloud. On the left side menu there is an item Beta apps. Choose Photoshop. Its new Generative Fill is brilliant!

That is the current latest version (excluding the Beta one mentioned here)

I see. Thanks. I'm a simple photographer that likes to capture the moment. I've never replace a sky and never intend to. I have cloned out debris before. Since LrC 11, I have not used PS. These days LrC 12 masking gives me the tools to balance background and subject. I use masking a lot for my B&W conversions. I've read wonderful things about it and if people are into that a great benefit. Great tool for pros. I was just curios as to where people were getting the beta version.

Thanks Paul. I kinda figured it was as it was the latest update from a few days ago. Just wanted to verify. I did see others mention beta and it was PS 2024.

Just to close this topic off, you will have noticed the issue with launching Ps Beta from LrC has been fixed by Adobe in the latest release (12.5) - see Blog link at the top of the Forum page.

I seen that this morning. Thanks for the heads up.

When I saw the title of this thread, my immediate reaction was, "Hoo boy!!," there is certainly a lot about Adobe that is arrogant, or at least not responsive to its customers. This should be a long and interesting thread. However, having a beta program and being "forced" to use it, per message #4 above, is NOT an instance of Adobe arrogance.

Adobe is hardly alone in offering beta software for users to try out. There is this small company in Redmond, Washington, USA named Microsoft. Perhaps you have heard of them. For Windows 11 and Office 365, they have an extensive program to make pre-release software available to users.

Here is an post that explains the four different levels of Microsoft pre-release software. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/preview-windows I'm guessing the "canary channel" is an allusion to the (US) English idiom, "The canary in the coal mine," used by miners to detect poisonous gasses in a mine.

And here is Adobe's beta program information. https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-beta.html. Note the key words "beta program to test apps and share your feedback directly with Adobe."

Remember no one is forcing you to use beta software.

I upgraded last night and I am happy to say both LR and PS work fine together again.

Phil, I never said that I was being forced to use the Beta. I said I was being forced to upgrade to a version that was well-known NOT to work well together with Lightroom.

You were not forced to do that either. How can you be forced to upgrade if you are free to keep using the old version or not to use the beta at all?

Anyway, I think this discussion is obsolete now.
