Set up D2x next to my D3'', assume both use a pre-set WB just to eliminate that variable.. Will the resulting RAW file be the same starting point?

In other words, if I apply the same develop preset at ingestion will the resulting developed image be the same?

My guess is that each camera sees color and white balance a little differently. So, in your experiment, I would expect slight differences in the result. Now, here's your homework assignment ... go ahead, try it, and let us know the result.

Nope, different sensors for a start. Different metering too.
Bit like loading a Kodak 2'' film in one camera and a Fuji 2'' film in another and expecting the same colours.

Every camera's different - even 2 cameras of the same model.
