apdproxy.exe hangs computer on startup

I'm having numerous problems with Lightroom lately. One of the most vexing is that every tiime I boot, it runs apdproxy.exe and this takes 1''% of my cpu processing power and hangs. If I open a task window quick enough and open the processes window I can end the process, otherwise I can only do a hard reboot - I can't even shut down properly.

I know I can tell the computer not to run this at startup but is there a better way. I don't EVER use Lightrooms auto import feature but use Downloader Pro instead.

Go ahead and kill it, you don't need it. I think I remember seeing that changes to this methodology were proposed for V2, but since I never use it (auto import) anyway, I don't know if made the beta, and who knows what'll be in the commercial release?

Lots of ways to solve this problem:

1. Go to the Quick Launch bar, right-click on Adobe PhotoDownloader and select Disable.
2. Start Lightroom and go to Edit > Preferences > Import tab and uncheck the "Show import dialog when memory card detected" option.
3. For more advanced and permanent fixes, you can disable PhotoDownloader from starting up by using your operating system. Start > Run > type Msconfig, select the Startup tab and uncheck the apdproxy line.
4. Assuming you're using Windows, use your File Browser to navigate to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom folder and rename the APDPROXY.exe file to something like APDPROXY.OLD or .DISABLED
5. If you're comfortable editing your registry, you could disable it there by changing one line in HK_LOCAL MACHINE
6. If you have a copy of the free TweakUI diagnostic from Microsoft you can edit your Event Handlers to disable Adobe Photo Downloader from starting up automatically.
So there's lot of options; it all depends on what you're most comfortable with. Options 2 and 4 are probably best but with #4 you have to remember you renamed the file in case you want to have the functionality back.

Thanks all. I've disabled it. Just odd how it would hog all of my resources on boot up.
