any isssues using sync software????

i'm just curious if anyone out there that uses synchronization software for their LR backups (catalogue and jpg's / RAW's has run into any issues or problems?
i've noticed from time to time that some metadata / keywords is missing or filenames are shortened and want to be sure that my hard work rating the photos and adding keywords is not going to dissappear this way?

Would it help to use a program that also validates the files by checking the MD5 hash?

I use Chronosync to do the same on Mac all the time, and I have Vice Versa (Windows) running on a server pulling files from 7 different machines. I've never run into any problems yet, as long as the sync is set up correctly.
