something I find to really annoying is the difficulty in updating folders that have changed contents. unless I'm doing it wrong. when I try to refresh a folder LR won't do it and sez the images already exist in the database - but they are not always in the designated folder - just somewhere in the database.
the only way around this is to delete the folder and go through the entire database to locate the errant files. when I do find the images I can't figure out what folder they are associated with.

it's a pain.

or Show in Windows Explorer

Hi nedjinski, welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you're doing quite a lot of rearranging of photos outside of LR. You'd save yourself a lot of headaches by managing your photos using LR's own interface, as it'll update the database at the same time.

In the meantime, we may be able to find you a quicker way of hunting down the errant files if you'd like to tell us a bit more about your workflow.

As Victoria says ... you can use Lightroom to move files, and these problems don't happen. You could also change your workflow so that you don't have to move photos from one place to another. Lightroom provides more powerful organizational tools than folders ... specifically, if you use keywords, metadata and collections you have a much more powerful and flexible organizational and search system than anything you could come up with using folders.
